EXPLANATION
You wouldn’t think there would be much to write about what inspired an “instrumental” song on an album, however, one look at the title, and you are most likely searching for some answers.
There is an old African saying that reads,
“When a snake comes into the house, we do not stop to ask where the snake came from before we kill the snake.”
According to “The skeptics guide to the Global AIDS Crisis,” 9 out of 10 children living with HIV and AIDS are African. The old saying about the snake speaks volumes about how we are handling the problem. When a virus is killing over 6500 children everyday, we don’t have time to sit and analyze the problem, we must develop a solution, and fast. Jeffrey D. Sachs, in his book, “The end of poverty” explains,
“It is no good to lecture the dying that they should have done better with their lot in life. Rather, it is our task to help them onto the ladder of development, at least to gain a foothold on the bottom rung, from which they can then proceed to climb on their own.”
Now granted, research and finding the cause of such a terrible problem is extremely important, however, we need to prioritize the many lives that are at stake over statistics and research.
This instrumental song is very dear to our hearts, and we were thrilled when it made the record. The voices that you hear in the beginning were children from the village that we sponsored in 2007 in Zeway, Ethiopia. The children were singing a song in Amharic, and we were able to capture the audio on film, and extract it from the video to include in this song. |
